Community Connections

“Everyone should look not only for his own interest, but also to the interest of others. Make your own attitude that of Christ Jesus.” — Philippians 2:4-5

A program of Carson-Newman University and its mission of helping our students reach their full potential as educated citizens and worldwide servant leaders, the Community Connections Scholarship Program provides servant leadership opportunities to engage Carson-Newman Campus with service-based community partners.

Students will not only have the opportunity to develop long-term relationships with one or multiple service organizations, they will also play an active role in connecting the campus to service opportunities that meet real needs in the East Tennessee area surrounding Carson-Newman. As part of being educated citizens, Students will also be mentored through the Center for Community Engagement to further equip them in serving others with an attitude that reflects Christ and leaves a lasting impact on those around them.

As a program under the Center for Community Engagement, Community Connections participants can expect to be a light to the community so that others may see their good deeds as a reflection of God’s redemptive work in their lives (Matthew 5:16). Community Connection Scholars will graduate with hands-on experience in community networking, student engagement, advocacy, and cross-cultural service.

Students who receive the Community Connections scholarship will receive $1,500 annually towards tuition at Carson-Newman as well as significant opportunities for leadership, service and faith development through being a part of Community Connections. Scholars are selected to join the program through an application and interview process conducted during the year prior to their matriculation at Carson-Newman.
